| RIVENBURGH Farm is dedicated to breeding Miniature horses
that are replicas of their larger relatives. We believe that the Miniature
horse should possess the same conformation and temperament as larger horses
but on a smaller scale and meeting the standards of the two official
miniature horse registries AMHA and AMHR according to their different height
divisions. The Miniature horse maximum height for our miniature horses is
38”. However, we are constantly striving and breeding for the smaller
conformational correct horse as well. To explain the difference in maximum
height for the different registries is simple. The maximum height for the
AMHA miniature horse registry is 34” at the last hair of the mane at
maturity. |

|
The maximum height for the AMHR is divided between the Under and Over
divisions. The Under AMHR miniature horse may not be any taller than 34” at
maturity. The Over AMHR miniature horse may not be any taller than 38” at
maturity. If a horse in the AMHR registry grows taller than the 38" it
becomes a pony and is no longer considered a miniature horse in any of the
above registries. Our ideal miniature horse must be small, refined and
athletic with an affectionate and willing nature. Keeping this in mind, we
pay special attention to quality, size, disposition and athleticism in the
bloodlines of our breeding stock.

We realized early on that the well bred Shetland pony had a
lot to contribute to the miniature horse bloodline. They were after all the
main bloodlines of the first miniature horses that were the foundation and
later icons of the early miniature horse industry. In our search for the
best and smaller Shetland pony bloodlines we found several that were amazing
in their contribution to our ideal and goals. One of these were the Arenosa
ponies from Texas. Finding under 34” mares and stallions with enough Arenosa
blood to perpetuate their outstanding qualities was a challenge but worth
all the effort. We soon found that as we continued to grow in this direction
and mix our genetic Shetland backgrounds I found other Shetland bloodlines
which contributed their own outstanding breeding qualities that
I desired.
One such line was from the McCarthy Farm in New York. |
We watched these horses continue to win at the National
level and eventually felt that we somehow had to have a representative from
this well bred line of horses. This became a reality the last night of the
2005 National show when by chance I spotted a beautiful little black
colt with an attitude in a stall that said NOT FOR SALE. Needless to say
I
proceeded to convince Eddie McCarthy that this horse should be ours and the
rest is history. This beautiful little horse, McCarthy’s Jesse James of Rivenburgh, at the age of three won the National Reserve Champion of
Champions title in 20077 at the AMHR National Show in Tulsa, OK..

Rivenburgh Farm also has one other reason to be proud and that is that Amber
Owens is training for us and has been for the past 3 years. Amber has been a
part of the miniature horse industry and our farm since she was 6 years old
and first began winning her first of many blue ribbons. In the process of
growing into the very talented young lady she has become she also has
definitely earned her stripes by winning many National and World
Championships both as a youth and now as a trainer. Her early training was
from one of the best miniature horse driving trainers, Portia Kalinka who
was truly her mentor. Portia’s driving expertise still is without peer. If
you are interested in placing your horse with a trainer who is dedicated to
gentle methods that create a willing partner in harness please call Amber
Owens 503.957.6191 or contact us at the farm telephone number or e-mail. |
